The Teachers Recognition Trust (TRT) and the School Advisory Board’s (SAB) come together to host an annual winter dinner dance featuring live music, raffle, and live and silent auctions. Proceeds from this event support the TRT mission to augment income for faculty and staff as well as to assist the school in minimizing tuition increases for the following year.

TRT Trustee: This is a great opportunity to serve on an SJC board while supporting this exclusive SJC program. The TRT trustees work together over a 4 year term by managing the teacher recognition trust and by co-chairing the school's largest annual fundraiser - the SJC Gala - where they partner with the SAB to create and manage this wonderful event. In addition, the Trustees have the privilege of managing and distributing the annual teacher and staff's bonus payments, which is truly a gift to be part of!
Treasurer: The Treasurer role supports the TRT board members and events by managing the trust's financial and accounting activity. Activities include: monthly back reconciliations and bank deposits and expense payouts, managing the annual audit by gathering documents and submitting to auditors, and working with TRT trustees to create and distribute annual teacher bonuses and related 1099's. In addition, the TRT Treasurer supports the Gala by working with the SJC Finance Manager to make related payments and track expenses. This is a great way to get involved in the TRT mission with a low time commitment and no term minimum or maximum.

Imagine, if you can, making a conscious decision to accept a salary from your employer that is less than you know you are worth. What would prompt you to do so? In the case of our teachers, at least one answer is a strong dedication to teaching in an environment that espouses Catholic values. Our teachers believe that St. John of the Cross Catholic School is the type of environment in which they can have the greatest impact upon the greatest number of children. Whatever their reasons, each of these individuals has made a great personal sacrifice to teach at St. John of the Cross Parish School. We strive to bridge the gap in the disparity that exists between salaries of our teachers and those in the surrounding school districts.
In 1989, a group of school parents established the SJC Teacher Recognition Trust to enhance the Archdiocese-mandated salaries our teachers receive. The Trust Fund strives to provide a monetary inducement to attract quality teachers and to show our appreciation for our teachers’ dedication and commitment to our children’s education.
In addition, the fund provides an opportunity for our teachers to participate in Continuing Professional Education programs. The annual teacher awards are an independent organizational gift, not part of the compensation package already provided for the school faculty and staff. The gift amount is fluid from year to year, based on the Fund’s performance.
