The children have been working very diligently in science. The Earth Layer projects turned out great, as many of you were able to see during conferences. It was good to be able to meet with so many of you. Please always feel free to contact me at other times for any reason.
We are finishing up Chapter One on Pangaea, Sea-Floor Spreading, and Plate Tectonics. Before we begin Chapter Two on Earthquakes, we will begin the science part of our cross-curricular unit on Egypt. The children will “mummify” orange segments. We use various “preservatives” – cornstarch, salt, and baking soda to see which variable is best at keeping the oranges from spoiling. This is one of the STREAM projects we do across our grade level.
Our next unit on Earthquakes also includes a STREAM feature, as the children will design and build an earthquake safe structure.
My wish for all of you is to have a wonderful Thanksgiving with your families!
