We have begun Module 7 – on applying ratios and rates. Students will understand how you can use ratios and rates to make tables and graphs that represent real-world situations, and then use them to solve problems. Students will make tables of equivalent ratios relating quantities with whole-number measurements, finding missing values in the tables, and plot the ordered pairs of values on the coordinate plane. Students will use this information to compare the ratios and draw conclusions. Students will also be using ratio reasoning to convert measurement units within measurement systems (US Customary to US Customary) and between measurement systems (US Customary to metric). Our next unit, Module 8, is on using percents to solve real-world problems. Students will have a understanding of percents and how they relate to decimals and fractions, and solving percent problems. Students will understand that they can use percents to find a part of a real-world quantity when you know the whole and a percent, and find the whole of a quantity when you know a part and a percent. The year is going by quickly! Our next major concept in sixth grade will prepare them for algebra and give them the foundations they need for solving equations. Thank you again for all your support at home. Working together helps your child to succeed in the classroom!
A second Parent-Teacher conference is scheduled for February 14th. This second conference is optional. If you feel that you would like to schedule an appointment you will be able to do so online.
