December is a busy month for our 8th graders. Good luck to all students who are taking the Catholic High School Placement test on Saturday, December 1st! We just completed our Statistics mini unit where the students learned to graph linear regression and create a model for a set of data.
Moving forward in December we will be spending two weeks on linear systems. This concept coincides with 7.1-7.5 in the textbook. We will look at how a solution of a linear system is defined and how to find the solution using graphs, elimination, and substitution. The students will be exposed to three different methods as each has its own benefits. We will discuss how to choose the best method given a problem and given an application. Lastly, we will apply systems of linear equations to geometry.
The Algebra 1 midterm is scheduled for the final date of December. The exact date will be scheduled by 12/7. This is the LT Algebra 1 semester 1 final and it is a cumulative exam over all concepts we have covered this year. This includes Units 1-4. The test will be taken in homerooms first thing in the morning and the students will have 100 minutes to complete it. I will review with the students as well as provide a study guide 1.5 weeks prior to the exam. The material on this exam needs to be studied well in advance, it will be counted toward their Trimester 2 grade.
