I hope you had an enjoyable and relaxing summer. I am looking forward to another great year teaching Writing Workshop to the 5th and 6th graders and Technology to the 1st-4th graders.
I will be teaching the 6th graders once a week and throughout the year we will focus on different styles of writing in conjunction with their Language Arts. During the first trimester we will be focused on fictional short stories including a conflict and resolution, homophones, transitional phrasing and expanded vocabulary. These skills will prepare them for the Letters of Literature contest in October in which they will write a letter to an author whose writing had a great impact on them in some way. More to follow on this… During the first trimester also Kathleen McGowan from the States Attorney’s office will speak to our students about internet safety/cyberbullying. She has been presenting at St. John’s for many years and the students are very receptive to her and her presentations.
I look forward to teaching your 6th graders and helping them to become excellent writers! If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to contact me. Thank you!
