Academic Focus/Important Dates:
•Daily Oral Language (DOL): Will be used to supplement language when we are not studying a specific grammar unit
•Grammar: Comma usage including Appositives (Restrictive/Non-Restrictive Clauses) – IXL will be used to reinforce skills
•Membean.com: Students must complete 2 days per week, 15 minutes per day. Quiz dates: February 20th
•StudySync: Unit 4 – Our Heroes
•40-minute timed writing experience: Reflective Narrative
•Formal argument essay: Who was the hero in The Boy in the Striped Pajamas?
•We will conclude our study of The Boy in the Striped Pajamas by viewing of the documentary Paperclips. Paperclips is set in rural Tennessee at Whitwell Middle School. Struggling to grasp the concept of six-million Holocaust victims, the students decide to collect six-million paper clips to better understand the extent of this crime against humanity. The film details how the students met Holocaust survivors from around the world and how the experience transformed them and their community.
