January will find SJC scientists exploring chemical reactions. We will be observing chemical changes and describe the ways in which we can identify a chemical reaction. We will develop and use models to identify the information included in a chemical reaction. We will apply scientific principles to explain how mass is conserved during a chemical reaction and use mathematical representations to identify three categories of chemical reactions. Lastly, we will explore how we control chemical reactions. We will apply scientific principles to explain how activation energy is related to chemical reactions and gather and synthesize information to identify factors that affect the rate of a chemical reaction As always, students will be provided with many hands-on experiences to strengthen and solidify their understanding of the physical science concepts taught this month.
