This week brings Mass, Band Choir Concert, and Pictures with Santa. Please read below for details. Students must read either a science fiction or historical fiction book by January. Their book choice is due today.
Friday will be pictures with Santa for $5. Student council will be donating the money to HCS Family Services. HCS Family Services was founded in 1937, when the Great Depression was coming to an end. Since then, HCS has been serving Dupage and Cook county residents who have fallen on hard times. HCS runs two food pantries in Hinsdale and Willowbrook. These food pantries help serve over 21,000 people every year, and distribute nearly 600,000 pounds of food annually. These two pantries are constantly stocked with plenty of food to fill families’ needs. The pantries are designed by client choice – in that each customer can choose whichever food they need which limits food waste. Not only does HCS provide food through food pantries, we also have social service referrals and holiday meal and gift programs. Dupage County currently has the 2nd largest food insecure (people who do not know where they will find their next meal) population in Illinois. In Dupage County, Cook County, and Northern Illinois, about one in six children face hunger. This problem isn’t just a problem somewhere else; it is in our very own neighborhood. This is why it is so important to keep these pantries running and stocked with food year round.
