Dear Parents and/or Guardians:
Our school year is quickly winding down. Our 8th grade students graduated last week and are our newest alumni. We wish the students the best in the next chapter of their lives. Over this past month, we celebrated with them through May Crowning/Ribbon Ceremony, Memorial Games, Great America, Awards Ceremony, and finally, Graduation, all highlighting our 8th grade class. They are now ready for the next phase of their academic career. We wish them God’s blessings as they begin a new chapter in their lives’ journey and we will remember them with fondness and love. Good luck and best wishes to the Class of 2018 and their families.
We also say good bye to members of our SJC family. We wish Mrs. Ostrowski the best in retirement where she will spend more time with family. Mrs. Ostrowski gave fourteen spirit filled years to SJC, teaching her 3rd graders. She always enjoyed that transitional year before entering the upper grades. Mrs. Sellinger has decided to return to retirement. We are grateful that she agreed to leave retirement for a year and return to teach Science. Mrs. Koerner has also elected to retire. Her decision caused her much consternation, but the timing was right for her and her family. We are saddened with the departure of Miss Roeper in 7th grade; however, we share her excitement. She has decided to teach in Thailand where she will teach the local school children English. Finally, we say good bye to Mrs. Odelson who would like to explore other career opportunities. To each of our teachers, we wish good luck and God speed.
Three of our paraprofessionals will not return in August. Mrs. Kysiak has worked here at SJC for sixteen years, dividing her time between the LRC and the classroom. She too would like to spend more time with family. Mrs. Pat Sheneman, 2nd grade aide, and Mrs. Linda Dolan, Science Lab Instructor, leave us after four years of devoted service to our children. Good luck to them as well.
Mr. Andy Cutter, our day time Maintenance staff member, will retire after giving ten years to SJC. He looks forward to more time with family as well. Finally, Mr. Brewer, who worked as PE teacher for Mrs. Bak during her leave of absence, accepted a job in another school district. The children and staff will miss his energy that he brought to the classroom.
Please look for my next newsletter August 1st.
As always, we wish our families a wonderful and safe summer vacation. Take care and be ready and refreshed for a new school year filled with new and exciting promises. God be with you all!
CELEBRATE SJC DAY (aka FUN DAY!)
The Parent Association sponsors the final student activity on Wednesday, 6/6, which we fondly know as Fun Day! If you have not signed up to help with this event, you still have one more chance. The PA sent a link in their newsletter last Friday, requesting more volunteers. Please help if you are able.
The children and faculty/staff gather one more time on Thursday, 6/7, for 9:15 AM liturgy. At that time, we thank God for our time together this past school year and pray for a safe and healthy summer for all. We will also wish those not returning a blessed send off. The children return to school for their report cards and are dismissed at 11 AM.
Our school website will take on a new look in a very short time. We intend to use the website as a marketing tool for prospective families. Our present families will continue to access the website through their own personal login.
IMPORTANT IPAD INFO FOR 2018-2019
Starting next year SJC will no longer supply students with a charger for their iPad. Students will need to purchase their own Apple certified charger with a “Made for Apple” badge. Students must have a fully charged iPad at the start of each school day.
For more information about Apple certified chargers go to https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT204566
MEMORIAL GAMES GIFT
Thank you to our present 8th grade parents for the work that you put forth for Memorial Games. The dollars raised from the raffles/concessions will go toward a new kiln in the art room and art room furniture as voted upon by the 8th grade students before their graduation.
FROM THE NURSE’ S DESK
If you have sent medication to school for your student, you will need to pick the medication up from the nurse’s office. Medications will be packaged with new consent forms for the next school year and available for pick up at the end of the day Thursday, June 7th or after Mass on Friday, June 8th.
Medications will not be sent home with students.
TIME, TALENT, TREASURE
We will post the link for Time, Talent and Treasure for school year 2019-2020 by 6/15/18. You may begin to submit your volunteer hours for any parish volunteering during the summer. It is due by 4/15/2019. We will remove the link at that time.
- We continue to keep Rachael Schopp and Father David in our prayers each day.
- Sue Bak continues to recuperate from her recent surgery. Please keep her in your prayers.
