5th Grade Science – Mrs. Linehan’s class
Welcome March and our final trimester of the school year!
We begin our astronomy unit in science this month. Students will make a model of the Milky Way Spiral Galaxy using paper cups and identify our solar system while they made it. Chapter 6 covers the study of the galaxies, universe, stars, planets, asteroids, meteors, comets, and moons.
Our labs will focus on topics covered in chapter 6 as well as other standards students study in 5th grade.
The project for our astronomy unit will be for students to use models to compare the diameters of the planets. Students will use data from a chart to measure, identify and label each planet. Students will color the planets as accurately as possible to mimic the real planets. Each planet will be placed on a paper that they will include 5 facts about each planet listed. This project is aligned with the ACT Aspire progress goals of interpretation of data, scientific investigation, and evaluation of model, inferences, and experimental results. Please watch Google Classroom for information on the testing date.
As always, please email me with any questions.
Enjoy your month,
Mrs. Ann Linehan
