• This month, we will cover adjectives and adverbs in our grammar book, which will be reinforced with Daily Oral Language and IXL exercises.
• The students will be completing their Saint Report through Writing Workshop by November 15; in the meantime, we will be discussing the features of personal narratives and read examples in preparation for their own narrative assignment, which will be due by Thanksgiving.
•Our first book report (fiction) will be due at the beginning of December.
•Beginning this month, we will start each class with a brief exercise to improve the students’ ability to identify the main idea of various texts. Results of our Aspire tests show an overall weakness in this area.
•In our Wonders program, scores on the weekly assessments and selection tests have been improving. Many students have been doing a second read of the selection at home, and I’m encouraged by the number of students that are retaking the test for a better grade.
•We will continue our analysis of various genres of literature, including folktale, poetry, realistic fiction, and fantasy. Specifically, we will discuss text structure, theme, figurative language, text features, and character development.
