Welcome to 8th Grade Life Science
Welcome back to SJC! I hope you all had a wonderful summer. I am looking forward to seeing everyone on the first day of school. I have a passion for science and am excited to explore life science and the gifts God gave us with your child(ren). I hope, as the year progresses, to awaken a love for science and the world around us within your child.
Please feel free to contact me with any questions and concerns you may have. I encourage your child(ren) to do the same. Your child’s learning and growth are important to me. My email address is firstname.lastname@example.org.
Tonight, Aug. 20th is Meet the Teacher night from 7-8 PM. Please stop in room 115 to get reacquainted and see the 8th-grade science room. We will start our first day of school on Wednesday, Aug. 21st with drop off starting at 8:25 this year.
During the months of August and September, we will explore the way a scientist thinks and behaves. We will review the scientific method as a way to solve problems and apply it to our everyday lives as we review how to write a lab report. We will review lab safety with a fun Lab Safety Challenge. We will demonstrate our safety knowledge with an art project. We will apply scientific principals to explain why scientists use a standard measurement and use mathematical representations to identify the SI units of measure for length, mass, volume, density, time, and temperature.
Into September we will begin to explore what is life. We will gather and synthesize information to identify the characteristics all living things share, construct a scientific explanation based on evidence to explain where living things come from, and apply scientific principles to identify what all living things need to survive.
Below you will find some helpful links to the life science syllabus, procedures, curriculum, and the new 2018 snack list. On the first day of school, a hard copy of the life science syllabus will be sent home. Please review the syllabus with your child(ren), sign, and return the parent/student signature page.
I am looking forward to an exciting year of exploration into the science of living things.
