Ministers of Care are commissioned Extraordinary Ministers of Communion who extend Christ’s presence beyond the walls of the church by bringing the sacramental presence of Christ to those who cannot join the parish for worship, especially the sick and elderly in hospitals, nursing homes, those who are homebound.
At St. John of the Cross Parish, Ministers of Care bring Holy Communion, pray with and visit elderly or ill parishioners in their homes. Home visits are arranged on a weekly basis at a time that is convenient for both the homebound patient and the minister.
Ministers of Care may also serve at LaGrange Hospital and RML Specialty Hospital. Ministers are scheduled according to their availability.
Please consider being a part of this rewarding ministry. Training for new Ministers of Care will take place in the Parish Center on April 18 and 25 from 9am-1pm. Ministers must attend both sessions. This training is provided at our parish in conjunction with the Vicariate IV Ministry Commission. Sign up below by April 14, 2020. A follow up training will then be held at our parish to cover the logistics of serving in each setting.
If you or a loved one would like a Minister of Care to visit please contact Deacon Rich Voytas at the Parish Center Office.
