On Ash Wednesday, we smudge an ashen cross on those who accept the traditional disciplines of the season: fasting, prayer, and almsgiving. During the penitential period of preparation, we seek reconciliation that we may know God’s mercy and be better disciples of the Lord. Together we move toward the events of our Holy Week which begins with palms. Only then will we commemorate Jesus’ passion, death, and resurrection at the Triduum services as we usher in the Easter Season.
This schedule is intended to serve as both an invitation and a reminder to prayerfully participate in our Lent - Triduum - Easter activities.
It is our faith that the Risen Lord is truly present to us in the assembly of the baptized, in the proclamation of the Word, in the elements of the Eucharist, and in the person of the Sacramental Minister. This is the Easter faith that we celebrate each Sunday. May the resurrection and the hope-filled promise of eternal life be a source of blessing for all who are St. John of the Cross Parish.
