Ministers of Care are trained volunteers who visit, pray with and bring Communion to patients at RML Specialty Hospital, LaGrange Hospital, or at their home. Visiting the sick is one of the seven Corporal Works of Mercy. Many who have participated in this ministry find they get more than they give.
Ministers complete a four evening or morning training session at the Carmelite Center in Darien and an orientation at LaGrange Hospital. Before serving ministers also meet with Steve Weigand, Pastoral Associate for additional training. The next training at the Carmelite Center will be Saturday, January 14 and 21 from 9am to 1pm. Contact Steve Weigand to learn more.
Ministers of Care from SJC bring communion to LaGrange Hospital three times a month to those who identify themselves as Catholic upon admission and weekly to RML Specialty Hospital on Fridays or Sundays. They also serve Hines VA Hospital. Home visits are also arranged on a weekly basis at a time that is convenient for the homebound patient and the minister. Ministers are scheduled according to their availability.
