As the month of May draws to a close, our church tour this year will take the form of a Marian pilgrimage to four historically and architecturally significant churches in the Bridgeport neighborhood of Chicago. Two of the churches, Nativity of our Lord and St. Gabriel’s, originally served Irish communities, as did the All Saints’ Church which has been merged into another of our destinations for this year: St. Anthony of Padua. The latter was established originally for a German Catholic community. We will conclude with the magnificent St. Mary of Perpetual Help Church, a shining example of Polish cathedral style architecture. The variety of architectural styles, national influences and historical backgrounds will enhance our appreciation for the universality of the Catholic faith and the expansiveness of the love of our Mother in Heaven.
The cost of the tour and transportation is $45 per person. We will break for lunch around noon at Connie’s Pizza. There is an additional cost for the lunch (which is entirely optional and payable in cash the day of the tour) of $27. This will include a hearty Italian meal of pizza and salad, dessert, tax, tip and beverage. You are free to bring your own sack lunch if you prefer.
The bus will leave the parking lot at St. John of the Cross Parish at 8:45am and will return at approximately 4:00 pm. There is a strict limit of 50 persons for this tour. These tours fill up quickly, so early registration at the Parish Center is recommended. At the time of registration, please advise as to whether you will be purchasing lunch so that I can have an accurate head count for the restaurant. Please contact Madonna Muscarello at email@example.com or 630.325.7990 with any questions.
