Celebrating 50 Years as a Faith Community 1960-2010

As we mark 50 years of being a parish faith community, we celebrate the great courage, faith and vision of our founding pastor, Fr. William Bennett, and the founding parishioners. Nourished by the love and hard work of many, our parish has grown into a community of nearly 4,000 families who come together to worship God, be nourished by the Sacraments, hand on our Catholic faith and be formed in the life of discipleship to the Lord. Ours is a strong, vibrant and welcoming community that radiates Christ’s love here and beyond.

Our Jubilee Year has been filled with many gifts and blessings for which we are very grateful: wonderful multi-generational parish celebrations and outings, spiritual renewal, and deepening of relationships among parishioners. This past year we also had the great joy of having two young men ordained to the priesthood – one is a parish son who grew up in our church, the other is our new associate pastor who joined our community upon his ordination as a deacon. In addition, in honor of our 50th Anniversary, parishioners have generously supported Our Legacy: A Tribute to Yesterday; a Commitment to Tomorrow, a fundraising campaign to renew our church and its grounds so that our parish remains a welcoming spiritual home for future generations. We thank all those who led us in our celebration!

Our founding Pastor has been quoted often during the past Jubilee Year:

“This is a Parish for all the People – whether sinner or saint, whether young or old. The prayer of Christ for His disciples that they may be one is still with us today. Our mission is to …be witness for Christ to all the world.”

Truly this is evidenced in all that we offer at St. John of the Cross Parish.
