Grade Level News: April 4, 2012

Religion
The fourth grade teachers would like to wish you a very blessed Easter. We hope you have a very restful break with a lot of family time. When we return from break, the fourth graders will be planning mass for April 23.
Language Arts
April is poetry month. In honor of this, the fourth grade students will be writing all different types of poems. Students will be learning about alliteration, personification, and rhyming patterns within poetry. The students will write cinquains, haiku, and other types of poetry.
In reading, the fourth grade will be moving onto Unit 5 in our Treasures program.
Social Studies
The Regional Fair is fast approaching! The students have been working on posters for the regional fair in school. Students are also responsible for researching, writing, and memorizing a biography about a person born in their state. The biography is a project done solely at home. Please check in with your student on his or her progress. This project is a highlight in fourth grade, and the students always do an awesome job. I cannot wait to see their finished project. The Regional fair will be April 24, 2012 in the evening from 6 PM – 7 PM.
Science
This month the fourth graders will finish their study of Earth science by learning about natural resources of Earth. We will look at renewable and nonrenewable resources. Our next unit will focus on simple machines.
Math
Fourth grade students have finished their study of Area and Perimeter. Our next unit will focus on percents. Please continue to study math facts at home with your child.
