Description

The SJC Speech Club is an opportunity for 6th, 7th, and 8th grade students to gain comfort, confidence, and expertise in public speaking.  Speech Club members memorize 5 to 8 minute selections from literature and present their speech at our SJC Speech Competition each November.

To prepare for the meet, students work weekly with parent volunteers to develop ease in speaking before a group.  Articulation, pacing, expression, gestures, and eye contact will all be rehearsed individually to ensure success.

Speech Club will meet at 8am on Tuesdays(6th grade), Wednesdays(7th grade) or Thursdays(8th grade). We will start our practices the first week of September and continue through mid November.  Parent volunteers are needed to help with these early morning practices.

Students are expected to come in prepared.  Each week a goal for memorization will be established.  It is imperative that this goal is met.  Delaying memorization until the last minute can cause frustration for both the student and the parent volunteers.  Frequent at home practice is required.
