Faith Formation
The mission of St. John of the Cross Parish School is to provide a dynamic Catholic environment where faith is nourished and knowledge grows. Our parish school, rooted in faith, prides itself on the legacy that has been established which empowers students to live The Good News. SJC students grow spiritually and deepen their faith through daily prayer, school liturgies and prayer services, special religious celebrations and service projects.
SJC children pray daily, attend Mass twice a month, take part in Eucharistic Adoration and plan and partici-pate in their own classroom prayer services. Students participate in liturgies as altar servers, lectors and cantors.
The Living Rosary, Christmas Pageant and May Crowning are just a few of the special religious celebrations each year at SJC.
Sacraments
Our Parish Priests and school teachers help prepare the children for Reconciliation, First Communion and Confirmation.
Confirmation preparation begins in seventh grade and continues until eighth graders are confirmed in February.
Second grade students receive the sacraments of Reconciliation and First Communion.
Service
Our students exemplify faith in action by completing many service projects each year. Service is always incorporated into our classroom work and grade level and school wide activities. Community service is also an integral part of our children’s preparation for Confirmation and graduation.
Examples of service experiences include:

School Supply Drive
Halloween candy donations for St. Thaddeus Parish
Christmas service project parties where children prepare over 600 Christmas care packages
“Breakfast with the Baby Jesus” prayer service and newborn item collection
Share Christmas
Port Sandwich making.
Student Council organizes the Port Sandwich making twice per month and all grade levels participate. Did you know that SJC is the most faithful and comprehensive donor to the Port and that SJC children make 400 sandwiches a month
