Request for a Minister of Care for Sick & Homebound

Under federal medical privacy laws, hospitals and extended care facilities can no longer alert the parish when a parishioner is admitted. A patient or a patient’s family may request a visit from a priest for prayer and/or anointing, or a visit by a Minister of Care for prayer and/or Holy Communion. Please call the Parish Center and ask for a:

Please leave a message at the Parish Center or at ex. 155 and we will do our best to provide someone as quickly as possible.

Ministers of Care are trained volunteers who visit patients at a facility or home. Ministers of Care from SJC and three other parishes visit LaGrange Hospital once a week to pray and bring Communion to those who identify themselves as Catholic upon admission. Since hospital stays today are typically short, you may miss a visit and we apologize in advance. In addition, if a patient is out for a test, or is being seen by a healthcare provider, the Minister of Care may be unable to visit.

Our Ministers of Care also visit RML Specialty Hospital on Fridays and Sundays and other rehabilitation and nursing facilities upon request. Please identify yourself as Catholic on admission to receive a visit.

To volunteer as a Minister of Care, please contact Fr. Fil. Training for Ministers of Care helps prepare you for this rewarding ministry. Visiting the sick is one of the seven Corporal Works of Mercy. Many who have participated in this ministry find they get more than they give.
