Why attend Kairos?

Here’s a more specific question: Why should I spend time reflecting on my life at a retreat? It is hard to know until you have tried. Maybe you are scared about going off to college. Maybe you are trying to decide where you want to go to college. Maybe you are hurt. Maybe you are healed – and wish to rejoice. Maybe you don’t know if God really cares. Maybe you are scared to find out how much He does care.

There are so many reasons that those who have already gone on Kairos would give you about why you should go, but first you have to choose to trust them. Thousands of teens go on Kairos each year. They go and discover who they really are and how they want to live. They come for their own reasons. All leave changed.

Maybe the best reasons to go is that someone cares enough about you to invite you. Talk to past Kairos participants, youth ministers or priests and ask them why. Even if your decision is not to go, you owe it to yourself to explore why so many people consider that a retreat is an essential experience in your life.

Missing a day of school may seem hard, but we have made steps to make it easier!
  1. FYI: There is an Illinois state law which allows each student to miss one day of school for a religious reason.
  2. For three years we had no problem with Lyons Township’s Principal David Franson granting an administrative absence for our retreatants. I will provide the principal’s office with a list of retreat attendees. Parents will need to call you in Friday March 16 morning to state that you are missing school for a religious day. The principal’s office will set it as an administrative absence after the fact.
  3. I have initiated a similar organizational effort with the principals at Hinsdale South & Central.
  4. If you or your parents have any questions, please call Katie.
